Approach

TDI follows a strategic or systemic planning approach to develop a framework of shared values and vision at the destination. The foundation for this approach is that strategy must be derived out of the values, visions and objectives of the larger system to which a person, organization or industry belongs.  This strategy development process is designed to lay the foundation for future decision-making, particularly with regard to product and market development, the allocation of scarce resources and participation by all segments of the industry.  Through this process, sites should be able to generate new interest in targeted source markets and improve the overall quality of the tourism experience on an ongoing basis.

During this process we work with planners, managers, and other stakeholders to generate specific outputs, outcomes and impacts throughout a period of time:

Þ     In the short-term: outputs achieved include an assessment and baseline of the institutions capacity, the supply, the demand, basic infrastructure and the community attitudes towards tourism development; and a strategy that specify how we will achieve the desired outcomes and impacts of the project, the timeline and budget required.

Þ     In the mid-term: outcomes obtained from  the sum of outputs and will happen at the  institutional level including changes in values, laws and regulation; changes in behavior, attitudes and practices; and development of new capacities.

Þ     In the long-term: impacts that generate changes in the livelihood and take place at specific geographic location, group of people and with gender equity; this can include more employment, increase in paid work or income; new MSMEs or upgrading from informal sector to formal; and access to basic services.
